Let’s cancel the apocalypse!
Ever notice how news about the environment is almost always bad?
Sure, some animals have been brought back from the brink of extinction, rivers don’t usually burn like they did in the 1960s, and the ozone layer has been closing, but still, usually we just hear about climate change and what it will do to us.
You know what? It’s true. We might go extinct as a species, and take millions of other species with us. We might start seeing widespread famines in just a few short years from now. Then there will inevitably be wars all over the place.
BUT! None of that needs to happen. Decades of work by probably millions of people on alternative energy and studying the environment have given us a magnificent tool chest. Most of us don’t have much time to research the amazing developments, though, so we don’t know much about the tools that are available now.
What is possible? What would it look like if the majority of people knew what was possible and forced their governments and corporations to do the right thing, the sensible thing? How much BETTER could things get, and how fast?
I started wondering just what it would take to roll back the hundreds of years of greenhouse gas emissions. What if we only used some of the simplest techniques, like growing trees? How much extra carbon could they store, and how fast? How much extra carbon is even in the atmosphere?
I’ve been studying the environment and the tools for a long time, but I’d never seen the numbers laid out in one place. So I and some friends and family started working on that and the result is our #Hope4Climate first aid kit for the planet! (You can read it in full through our social media sites if you want.
